ABOUT BACK TO BALANCE

Back to Balance is a neuro-affirmative psychoeducational programme developed in partnership with the Autistic Girls Network. It is grounded in therapeutic understanding of autism (including interoception, alexithymia, and the Double Empathy Problem) and is designed to restore a young person’s ability to feel safe, connect, and learn. The programme addresses the emotional, behavioural, and cognitive barriers that sit beneath non-attendance or disengagement. Autism is not positioned as a deficit to be managed, but as a different profile to be understood and valued. Learners build understanding of their own internal world: how their brain works, how emotions present somatically, how attention fluctuates, and how regulation happens. Emotional regulation and self-understanding are the precondition for academic progress. Without them, nothing else sticks. Back to Balance creates the internal conditions in which learning becomes possible again. Learners on
the programme are also welcome to all assemblies, Mentor Circles, optional lessons, and enrichment clubs.
